Very good website for learning language, the learning material is very broad (writing, speaking, vocabulary, grammar...) and the teachers are native and very, very good! I'm very happy I found Lingoda. Good job to all the teachers!

I can honestly say that for me, at least, Lingoda is the only game in town I'd consider for French and German. The annual packages really make it affordable. I only wish they'd add more languages. The updates to Lingoda have really improved the student's ability to select and choose courses within the series.

I've done just under 100 lessons with Lingoda now, learning French A2. And I've seen a huge improvement. Small classes, lots of talk time, a good mix of reading, writing, speaking, listening practice. The teachers are always good and you can book lessons to suit your calendar.

I have not had a single bad experience with Lingoda. The teachers that I worked with learning French were fantastic. Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic about sharing their language. There was always room to ask questions, and we learned so much! Not to mention, behind the scenes, they have great customer service.

Learning language requires spending time for it. I force myself with Lingoda. But, this way it is always fun and my French is very very much improved. Everyone has noticed. There are some really amazing teachers and exquisite linguists in its staff, which is great if you want to develop a deeper understanding of a language.

Frequently asked questions

The reading comprehension part is integrated into all our courses, with a variety of texts used throughout the lessons. At Lingoda, we view reading as an essential part of language learning, and therefore, every lesson will start with a short text to warm you up, introduce you to new words, and put the lesson’s focus into context. Plenty of research has shown that reading skills transfer from one language to another. What this means is that being able to read in your native language while learning a foreign one will help you increase your vocabulary and get you to a higher level. During the course, you will be able to read aloud to practice your speaking and listening skills, as well as your pronunciation. You will also be doing a focused reading to understand texts and details in more depth.

Learning a new language is never an easy task, but French isn’t as hard as it seems. However, it does have very confusing grammar which you will have to learn. French is known to be one of the more accessible languages, especially for North American and European people. There are plenty of similarities between French, English, Spanish, and other Romance languages.

According to the FSI scale, French is ranked as a “category I language”, which means that it is “more similar to English”, as compared to categories III and IV “hard” or “super-hard” languages. Most English speakers will find French to be one of the easiest languages to learn and on average it takes a student 30 weeks to achieve proficiency. Being a Romance language, you will be able to find plenty of similarities between French and English.

Several things are complicated to learn while studying French. However, generally speaking, the hardest thing about learning the French language is oral comprehension. The reason for this is because of the variations in vernacular, the urgency of listening, our brains’ resistance to the spoken word, and silent letters. Nonetheless, our native-speaking teachers will be able to help you out with your oral comprehension while teaching you how to read in French. Reading comprehension will significantly help you overcome this challenge.

This is entirely dependent on your level and subjective on the student. Beginner students will be focusing on easy French texts, such as letters and short dialogues. On the other hand, intermediate students will be reading more advanced texts such as articles. However, we do encourage all our students to read additional material outside of the class to be able to learn how to read quicker. You will be able to understand what type of reading material to take up after you have gotten the results from your Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) language test.

Every different level covers different topics. In the A1 and A2 levels, you will start reading casual and simple texts to understand how sentence structure works in French. While you read the texts, always make sure to write down any vocabulary you might not know yet or that may be useful in your day-to-day life.

All of the teachers provided for your online immersive courses with Lingoda are native-level speakers with plenty of years of teaching experience. We always make sure to provide you with teachers that can support you along your journey from day one, as well as being capable of giving you a top-notch online language education. All of our teachers went through rigorous training where they learned about Lingoda’s methods and standards to fulfill your language learning expectations.

Reading French can be a challenge for any beginner student, but there are ways to overcome this. You should start by picking up easy texts, for example, children’s books, and then slowly advance to French literature books which you have previously read in your language. During the courses provided by Lingoda, you will be able to familiarise yourself with reading since we integrate it in every lesson.

Most students learn French faster and better when they use their acquired knowledge in their everyday life. If you make the effort of using the language outside of class, such as reading books, magazines, or newspapers, you will see that your progress will increase. Maybe you are working in a certain sector or you are highly passionate about a certain topic, try mixing your passion with the language to improve your French through reading.

If you choose to get started with your French reading courses using Lingoda, you will find that the process is easy. You first need to choose a plan for your French courses, whether you want to make this plan short-term or long-term is up to your language learning goals. If you want to reach a higher level of reading comprehension in a short time, you might want to consider taking an intensive course and add a private tutor as well. After you have established a goal for your language learning journey, it is time to take a placement test. This test will evaluate your French skills to find the most adaptable level on the CEFR scale. Finally, when you pick the course you want to take, you will also be able to choose what times are best applicable to your schedule.
